I've had some questions and would like to offer this bit of information for those contemplating taking this class, especially since it happens right around the holidays.

The final project is generally a 15 minute presentation on a topic of your choice. In the past this has been anything from a powerpoint presentation on your favorite Florida critter, issue or location to a educational activity geared toward elementary children to an art project that reflects some aspect of the coursework. All involve research beyond the provided curriculum materials, although the extent of this research is really up to you. Some folks just shoot to get the general information correct while other dig deep into scientific names and mechanisms. Other instructors insist on working groups but I've found that some people prefer to work on their own and I won't force the issue. This is your course- how and what you present is up to you.
In addition to the final project, my classes always have an interpretive 'moment' that can be 3-5 minutes and may or may not be related to your final project. This moment will occur during a trail walk that we will have scoped out in our first class so you will be prepared to speak by the 3rd class when we do the trail walk again. The only way to fail is to not do the final project or attend all the sessions. I will mention that I am quite easy-going in my facilitation technique. If you are looking for an intense, deeply technical class, this may not be your best option. I say this only to avoid potential disappointment.
More information is available on the FMNP website.
