TITLE: OPS ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST I/OUTREACH SPECIALIST
AGENCY: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Fish and Wildlife Research Institute
LOCATION: St. Petersburg, FL (Pinellas)
COMPENSATION: $13 to $16 per hour commensurate with experience, 40 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION
Represents the FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute at public outreach events statewide. Coordinates event details including the design and creation of displays for specific target audiences; personnel assignments; transport, set-up and break-down of event materials; and evaluation of outreach effectiveness. Coordinates in-house public outreach activities including providing tours of FWRI and making public presentations. Functions as committee chair for the outdoor displays component of FWRI's annual open house.
Other responsibilities include managing the development of outreach products, such as brochures, teacher guides/curricula, PowerPoint presentations, and other educational tools; answering public inquiries and responding to information requests; preparing non-technical fact sheets, brochures, and articles for public outreach; and representing FWRI in certain agency-wide outreach planning efforts. Assists with other outreach projects as needed.
Note: This job requires extensive travel (including driving), public interaction and weekend work.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences with a strong background in outreach and/or education is highly recommended. The following skills and abilities are required: ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; computer skills including Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint); ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings with extensive in-state travel (4-10 days per month); ability to lift 50 lbs and perform strenuous field activities; experience in the operation and trailering of vehicles/vessels less than 26' in length; basic knowledge of fish and wildlife issues.
