Forests, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources - Early Registration Deadline

From: Sharon Borneman | Conference Coordinator | University of Florida | IFAS

This is a must-attend event if you are interested in sustainability of a wide range of natural resources.

The Florida Society of American Foresters and the UF/IFAS School of Forest Resources and Conservation invite you to attend the 40th Annual SAF/SFRC Spring Symposium—Sustaining Forests, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in a Changing World to be held June 2-3, 2010 at the Paramount Plaza Hotel in Gainesville, Florida.  Click here for details:

Changing land use patterns due to clearing for agriculture, population growth, and economic forces have led to a 25% decline in forest area in Florida and much of the Southeast since the 1930's, threatening the ecological, economic and social values of our land and water resources.  At the 40th Annual SAF/SFRC Spring Symposium leading experts from around the country will discuss a wide spectrum of issues related to sustaining our forest and aquatic resources.  The Symposium will provide ideas, tools and information for virtually all of Florida's forest land owners and managers. The John Gray Lecture will set the tone at 9:45 on the first day, with Carlton Owen, President of the US Endowment for Forestry and Communities, speaking on Natural Resources Sustainability:  Operating at the Speed of Need. Other speakers will focus on national, regional and state sustainability issues and opportunities.

The Symposium will offer 7 Category 1 Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) credit hours as authorized by the Society of American Foresters.

The registration fee includes lunch and dinner on Wednesday, breakfast on Thursday, refreshment breaks and Symposium materials.  The Early Reduced Registration fee is $135 if you register by Wednesday, April 28th.  If you register after April 28th, the registration fee goes up to $155.  Students can register for only $50.   CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

The Symposium will be held at the Paramount Plaza Hotel, which is offering a very special rate of just $64.50 per night (plus tax) with one or two people in a room (single or double occupancy).   Reservations must be made by May 15th to receive the special group rate.  Click here for a 'quick reference' sheet on the Paramount Hotel's features and services.

If you manage any list serves and group email lists or have access to email addresses of colleagues who may be interested in attending the Symposium, please help us get the word out by forwarding this email to them.  Thank you.
