A Shadow and a Song: The Struggle to Save an Endangered Species Sunday, February 10, 2008 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Mark J. Walters, author and Professor of Journalism, University of South Florida This poignant presentation by author Mark J. Walters is first in a series of lectures celebrating a year of Science and Humanity, leading to Darwin Day 2009. This is the story of how the Endangered Species Act failed a small songbird, the dusky seaside sparrow. The setting of this story is modern Florida and relates how the social and political forces of this development era brought about the extinction of this small bird. E. O.
